Summary Our understanding of the mechanisms underlying atopic dermatitis has been instrumental in the development of novel pharmacological agents. Worldwide, more than seventy companies are currently developing at least one new drug for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Based on our current understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease, the present review article highlights the most important novel therapeutic strategies.
