Tuberculosis (TB) of the urinary tract is a common disease in developing countries of the world. Establishing a clinical diagnosis is challenging owing to the variable clinical presentations of the disease and often a high index of suspicion is required. Identification of epithelioid cell granulomas, Langhans’ type of multinucleated giant cells, variable inflammation and demonstration of acid fast bacilli on Ziehl‐Neelson (ZN) stain are essential for establishing a cytologic diagnosis. We present a case of urinary tract TB, which could be diagnosed based on cytomorphologic examination of urine smears and ZN stain.
