Spontaneous cryptococcal peritoneal effusion: an unusual cytological diagnosis with a poor prognosis

Here we report a case of Cryptococcal peritonitis that presented in a patient with cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy. It is critical that pathologists are aware of the risk factors for Cryptococcal peritonitis, given the poor outcome of this infection and the need for rapid identification and treatment.
