This first report of mantle cell lymphoma involving the thyroid diagnosed by FNA emphasises the importance of knowing the history of previous lymphoma and the role of rapid on‐site evaluation in triage. Specific subtyping was possible using a combination of cytomorphological analysis, flow cytometry and the detection of a t(11;14) translocation.
