Summary Helichrysum bellum Hilliard (Compositae: Inuleae: Gnaphaliinae) is described and illustrated. The genus Helichrysum , and its position in the family, is discussed, along with the placement of Hilliard's Group 28 species in relation to recent phylogenetic studies, and compared with Moeser's original placement in his early revision. The richness of the Drakensburg Alpine Centre is commented on, especially in relation to some of the species closely related to H. bellum . Cultivation, propagation and availability notes are also provided for this distinctive species. The species is considered Least Concern in previous conservation assessments.
