Summary Rosa gigantea Collett ex Crépin, is illustrated. Its history in cultivation and distribution in China and the Himalaya are discussed. It is one of the most heat‐tolerant of roses, and already the parent of hybrids suitable for warm climates; if global temperatures rise, its progeny will become even more valuable.
