Summary Neoshirakia japonica , (formerly known as Sapium japonicum and Shirakia japonica ) is one of two species in the genus, both hardy trees in tribe Hippomaneae of the Euphorbiaceae. In this article the taxonomic history, distribution, habitat and cultivation of the species are discussed, accompanied by a detailed description and a colour plate by Christine Battle.
