Summary The history of cultivated white, pink and double flowered variants of the polymorphic species Wisteria floribunda (Willd.) DC . is discussed in order to preserve and standardise current usage of cultivar names within W. floribunda worldwide. The new combination Wisteria floribunda (Willd.) DC . f. microphylla (Makino) J. C ompton is made here for a plant with very small leaflets.
