Summary The South African geophyte Ornithogalum maculatum Jacq. is a very variable spring‐flowering species occurring from Namaqualand to the Little Karoo. A particularly striking deep orange‐red, large‐flowered, citrus‐scented form from the Nieuwoudtville district is illustrated, along with details of its history, taxonomy and potential for cultivation and breeding.
