While in the Sherlock Holmes canon Watson is married twice (and once widowed), the domestic scenario most frequently staged by the stories sees Holmes and Watson sharing 221b Baker Street, attended by their housekeeper Mrs Hudson. Holmes himself nostalgically looks back to this menage when he reunites with Watson after seeming to return from the dead at the beginning of The Return of Sherlock Holmes: ‘This is indeed like the old days,’ adding ‘We shall have time for a mouthful of dinner before we need go.’
