Octocrylene (CAS no. 6197-30-4, INN: octocrilene, syn. 2-propenoic acid, 2-cyano-3,3-diphenyl-, 2-ethylhexyl ester) is a frequently used ultraviolet (UV) filter (1). In addition to photocontact allergy, octocrylene may also cause contact allergy, albeit in fewer patients (2), as extensively reviewed in (3). To examine the frequency of contact allergy to octocrylene in consecutively patch tested patients, data of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (IVDK) (www.ivdk.org, last accessed 28 November 2016) were analysed.
