Conflicts of interest: The authors declare no conflict of interests. Funding: None. Patch testing with the patient’s own material may sometimes result in particular false-positive reactions, if there is a retained allergen in the material that is the real cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Herein, we report on 2 patients with suspected ACD caused by shoes and an elbow strap, respectively. However, topically applied drugs were the real causes in both cases. The shown protocol can help also to assess the correct relevance of contact allergens in certain cases.
