The esophageal epithelium is first pseudostratified columnar (top left, TEM), the apicobasal polarity temporarily disturbed (top right, γ‐tubulin immunostaining), undergoes cell rearrangement (bottom left, phalloidin‐staining), and finally becomes stratified squamous (bottom right, ZO‐1 immunostaining).
