Key Messages Empirical evidence indicates that secondary suites are significant for multigenerational families, as well as for traditional rental units. Definitions of family housing must adapt to the new variations of families that are often blended, intergenerational, and/or assemblies of friends. Rezoning of parcels to allow secondary suites is not merely about planning principles; it is also about the social relationships of the people utilizing the suites.
