Key Messages Contemporary physical geography has core themes that define the subject as it is taught at the undergraduate level in North America and the United Kingdom. Physical geography textbooks have responded well to the emerging theme of anthropogenic processes. These textbooks, however, struggle to represent coherent perspectives on space, the uniqueness of places, and the apparent contradiction of physical geography as a science.
