Key Messages Physical geography is failing to produce students with either the breadth or depth of knowledge to contribute meaningfully to environmental research. The need for interdisciplinary geographic research is greater than ever. There are many opportunities in teaching geography to better handle the pervasive issue of breadth and depth.
