Standard treatment of localized prostate cancer (PCa) includes active surveillance (AS), radical prostatectomy (RP), and radiation therapy with or without radiosensitizing androgen deprivation therapy. Though RP had been the most commonly performed treatment since the early 1980s, the landscape has changed significantly in the past 10-15 years. As evidence, 54% of Medicare patients with PCa in 1991 underwent RP, though this fraction dropped to 24% two decades later. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
