Non‐Governmental Organizations' Role for Social Capital and Community Empowerment in Community Development: Experience from Bangladesh

The purpose of this study was to investigate contributions by non‐governmental organizations ( NGO s) to social capital and community empowerment that facilitate community development. A multi‐method research approach was conducted, where a number of qualitative data collection methods were employed. Data was collected from two indigenous communities, goldsmith and blacksmith, served by two NGO s—Proshika and Practical Action Bangladesh ( PAB ). The findings showed that both NGO s played a substantial role in social capital development and community empowerment toward community development. The findings of this study will provide valuable input to the community development field.
