This study contributes to the insertion of the gamma‐ray spectrometry technique in archaeometry by presenting spectral analysis methods to determine the ratios between the absolute concentrations of the radioelements eTh (ppm), eU (ppm) and K (%) in archaeological ceramics without strict control of geometry. The absolute ratio results for samples of diverse geometry are consistent with the results obtained for samples with geometric control at a 95% level of statistical significance. In order to show a real archaeometry case, the methods were applied in the analysis of 14 ceramic pieces of three archaeological sites of Maranhão state (Brazil).
