A systematic review and meta‐analysis were performed to determine the effect of therapeutic hypothermia using low‐technology methods, in settings with facilities for intensive care, in term or near‐term infants with hypoxic‐ischaemic encephalopathy on mortality, neurological morbidity at discharge and neurological morbidity at 6–24 months. Conclusion Meta‐analysis of three randomised controlled studies showed that low‐technology therapeutic hypothermia in an intensive care setting significantly reduced the mortality and the neurological morbidity in survivors at discharge.
