Is neurotrauma training in rural New South Wales still required following the implementation of the New South Wales State Trauma Plan?

The implementation of the New South Wales State Trauma Plan has streamlined the triage process and transport of major trauma patients to regional and metropolitan trauma services. However, as there are areas which are more than 2 h from neurosurgical services, rural and regional surgeons should continue to receive training in burr hole and craniectomy for evacuation of extradural haematoma to expedite the management of rural trauma patients with severe traumatic brain injury.
