We undertook a retrospective observational study, reviewing the case notes of 386 patients admitted to an enhanced recovery programme for total hip or total/unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. We found that early mobilization (within 12 h) as part of an enhanced recovery programme was associated with decreased length of stay for patients having total hip arthroplasty; however, this was not the case for knee arthroplasty patients.
