This paper confirms the existence of a survival paradox in patients diagnosed with rectal cancer in an Australian cohort. This study adds weight to the revision of the TNM staging to provide more emphasis on the T stage due to observed poor prognosis in stage IIB/C disease compared to IIIA disease.
