Preoperative anaemia and thrombocytopenia are associated with venous thromboembolism complications after colorectal resection

In a review of over 1600 patients who underwent colorectal resection, anaemia and thrombocytopenia are associated with higher rates of post‐operative complications including anastomotic leak, venous thromboembolism and longer length of stay. Increasing severity of anaemia is correlated with worse outcomes.
