Summary This piece is a reproduction of a legal memorandum that I wrote as an engaged ethnographer working on the legal team of a capitally charged criminal defendant in the United States. I present it as an example of my attempts during fieldwork to bring some anthropologically inflected inspiration to the humanizing endeavors of capital defense advocacy.
