The Landry-Guillain-Barre Syndrome (LGBS), or acute polyradiculitis, has been known for more than 100 years. Numerous investigations into the still obscure etiology have been accomplished (Bradford el al. 1918, Demmc 1932, Haymaker & Kernahan 1949, Ravn & Jensen 1965), and several clinical reports have been published. The conclusions drawn from the clinical reports are, however, weakened by the fact, that most clinical reports are small. A review of the litera ture has revea led only three series of 50100 patients (McFarland & Heller 1966, Mollm·et el al. 1959, Wiederholt el al. 1964) and only four series of 4050 patients have been found (Berglund 1954, Coiraull el al. 1958, Eiben & Gcrsonu 1963, Haymaker & 1\ernohan 1949). With this background it was found of interest to give a survey of the syndrome together with a clinical repo rt of 127 cases, hospitalized in the department for communicable diseases, Blcgdamshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark, between 1949 and 1963.
