Summary To illustrate the male reproductive hormone profile, a study was conducted among healthy male university students living at Butare, Rwanda (altitude: 1 768 m, barometric pressure: 629 mm Hg). Venous blood was collected in the morning, after overnight fasting. Hormonal assays were performed by classical sandwich ELISA technique. Mean values (±standard deviation SD ) were follicle‐stimulating hormone FSH : 3.7 ± 1.6 IU l −1 ; luteinising hormone LH : 3.6 ± 2.2 IU l −1 ; and total testosterone: 21.0 ± 7.5 n m . The results compare well with findings of other studies.
