On the cover: Every December, the Nobel Foundation hosts a gala to fete the year's laureates, those whose achievements have conferred “the greatest benefit to humankind.” Although the pandemic has largely cancelled this year's festivities, we celebrate CRISPR/Cas9 technology developed by Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna. Kuscu et al. ( page 3285) succinctly describe the revolutionary genome editing tools and explain how they may expand both diagnostic and therapeutic horizons in transplantation. The December issue also highlights US kidney donor selection practices relative to demographic and health characteristics such as metabolic, cardiovascular, and substance use parameters. Survey results presented by Garg and colleagues ( pages 3379 and 3390) and discussed by Gill and Brar ( page 3279) show a clear trend over time toward acceptance of older and more medically complex donors. Cover design by Megan Llewellyn, Duke University Section of Surgical Disciplines .
