On the cover: Transplantation is an international practice. Its outcomes are certainly bounded by biological principles that are common globally, but these outcomes are also heavily influenced by widely diverse social climates. This month, Ibrahim et al ( page 1309) examine a comparison of UK and US kidney utilization rates, demonstrating that this routine transplant procedure differs markedly based on numerous social differences related to risk aversion, insurance standards, and numerous other unique aspects of each country’s social framework. An editorial comment by Manook and Kirk ( page 1221) draws attention to the many discrepancies in practice that impair the application of best practices from one country to another. Of course, in recent several months, we have witnessed, in the COVID‐19 pandemic, a much more dramatic example of global biology altered by social differences. To bring the readers of AJT the most up‐to‐ date peer‐reviewed literature about the impact of COVID‐19 on global transplant practice, we have developed a rapid review process for COVID‐related papers and are making all accepted papers freely available at amjtransplant.com/covid19. Cover design by Megan Llewellyn, Duke University Department of Surgery.
