On the cover: Histology has long been a mainstay of transplant diagnostics. However, its role in mechanistic research is accentuated in an article by Calvani et al ( page 942). In this study, the authors use an innovative technology of multiplexed immunofluorescence on paraffin‐embedded biopsies to simultaneously detect NK cells, macrophages, and T cells and to determine their intra‐ or extravascular localization during T cell‐ and antibody‐mediated rejection. The implications of this fine work are highlighted in a thoughtful editorial by Bellamy and Prost ( page 915), who discuss the opportunities and practicalities of this “next‐generation pathology” to reveal unsuspected networks of spatial, social, and functional cellular organization.
