On the cover: Islet transplantation remains a promising means of beta cell replacement, but islet allo‐ and xenograft immune destruction remains a significant problem. This month, in a robust nonhuman primate islet allotransplant model, Stabler et al ( page 689) demonstrate that grafting polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymer chains onto islets markedly improves their function and survival in vivo. This relatively simple ex vivo modification could provide a new means of lessening the need for immunosuppression following islet transplantation.
