Summary The aim of the study was the analysis of the nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain containing 2 ( NOD 2, formerly CARD 15 ) as a candidate gene for M ycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis infection in cattle. Eleven SNP s in the NOD 2 gene were identified, and finally, four SNP s were included in a case–control study using 324 G erman H olstein cows tested for paratuberculosis using fecal culture and ELISA . The SNP ( G en B ank) AY 518738S04:g.521 G > A in exon 4 showed a significant association between the fecal culture status of the animals and NOD 2 allele variants. The other three SNP s showed no associations in G erman H olstein cows.
