Two new species of gall midges that feed on trees in P apua N ew G uinea are described. The larvae of S chizomyia novoguineensis   K olesik sp. nov. transform the flowers of M acaranga aleuritoides ( E uphorbiaceae) into spherical galls preventing sexual reproduction of the host tree. The larvae of R hopalomyia psychotriae   K olesik sp. nov. induce pustulate leaf galls on P sychotria ramuensis ( R ubiaceae). Descriptions of adults and immature stages, and DNA sequences of the cytochrome oxidase unit I mitochondrial gene segment, are given for each of the new species.
