Mutans streptococci (MS) are the key bacterial species\udresponsible for the development of early childhood\udcaries. Studies have shown that these bacteria\udcan be transmitted from mother to child via a pathway\udknown as vertical transmission. However, a paucity\udof research has been found on mothers'\udknowledge, behaviours and attitudes of this issue.\udThe aim of this research project was to determine the\udknowledge, behaviours and attitudes of mothers\udregarding vertical transmission of MS from mother to\udchild, and to determine external influences on mothers'\udawareness of this issue. To assess this, a qualitative\udcase study methodology of an exploratory nature\udwas chosen. The case was defined as mothers' awareness\udregarding vertical transmission of MS from\udmother to child
