There are numerous types of REE deposits in China. Based on reserves, two types are very important. One is carbonate type of REE deposit as the representative of Baiyunebo REE deposit, Mongolia and the other is REE deposit of ion-adsorption type which is related to the granite weathering crust in the Southern China (Peng et al., 2006).The latter are widely distributed and have a simple beneficiation process (Yuan et al., 2001). So the ion-adsorption REE deposit in which adsorbed REE elements occur in a weathering granite crust profile has been a hot spot of research. We have researched the structure, mineralogy and geochemistry of a granite weathering profile in Guposhan area which can make a contribution to study of exploration and utilization of REE deposit of ion-adsorption type in the weathering crust.
