Geological Features and Origin of the Hekanzi Alkalic‐Type Mo (Au) Deposit, Western Liaoning Province, NE China

Located 255 km northeast of Beijing in Lingyuan city, western Liaoning Province, the Hekanzi district is one of the most important alkalic-type Mo (Au) prospecting areas in northern China. The Hekanzi district is located at the eastern part of the Yanliao depression which in the north part of the north China Craton. The major stratigraphic units exposed in the Hekanzi district are Late Proterozoic marble, sandstone, and shale of Changcheng and Jixian Systems. Cambrian and Ordovician sedimentary are sporadically distributed, and cover the Precambrian metamorphic rocks. Jurassic volcano-sedimentary rocks outcrop extensively in the district, and unconformably overlie the Precambrian and Early Paleozoic stratigraphic units. All the stratigraphic units are strongly folded and faulted. Fold axes are generally EW to NW-trending. The faults and fractures are running parallel to the fold axes. This fault system not only forms the boundaries among the strata units, but is also the most important structural factor controlling the geometry of the ore-bearing veins. Mafic to felsic intrusive batholiths, stocks, and dykes, with various isotopic ages, are common in the district, of which the Hekanzi alkaline intrusive complex (AIC )is the largest. The Hekanzi, as well as the adjacent Huajian, Maquanzi, Baizhangzi, Yangzhangzi and Maojiadian deposits or prospects, is hosted by the Hekanzi AIC.
