In recent years, geochemistry of rare earth elements in hydrothermal minerals are widely used to trace the source of ore-forming fluids (Lottermoser, 1992; Subías et al., 1995). Compared with calcite, quartz lack selectivity to most elements including rare earth elements. So quartz can play a greater role in tracing ore-forming fluids. In Chahe copper deposit, ore minerals are chalcopyrite, pyrite while gangue minerals are quartz, calcite ( Fig.1c, Fig.1d). Some quartz is closely related to copper mineralization, and some belongs to the product of pre-mineralization. It will be discussed as following.
