This article examines coverage of B ritain's conflict with the A merican colonies in C hristian F riedrich D aniel S chubart's popular G erman‐language periodical Deutsche Chronik from M arch 1774 to the beginning of 1777. S chubart was an enthusiastic supporter of the revolutionary movement, which he thought could serve as a model for G erman‐speaking E uropeans. However, Britain's use of G erman troops against the A mericans marked a turning point in the way the Chronik covered the conflict. It not only resulted in a significant increase in reports about A merican developments, but also compelled S chubart to introduce alternative interpretations of the A mericans' struggle with B ritain.
