This article examines five previously unknown F rench reviews of A V indication of the R ights of W oman and of T he W rongs of W oman , by M ary W ollstonecraft, published in the 1790s. It contrasts the F rench and the E nglish reception after discussing Wollstonecraft's life in Paris, which helps understand the way her works were assessed. It also looks at the F rench appraisal of some of W ollstonecraft's contemporaries, especially Ann R adcliffe and C harlotte S mith, to bring out the specificity of the reception of W ollstonecraft's works.
