The effect of plasma on expression and extracellular secretion of α‐amylase and the underlying mechanisms were investigated using Aspergillus oryzae , a fermenting filamentous fungus. Our data suggest that plasma can enhance the secretion of α‐amylase from fungal hyphae by depolarizing the cell membrane and activating Ca 2+ influx into hyphal cells, eventually leading to the accumulation of secretory vesicles near the hyphal tips.
