This article analyses three extant sets of English disciplinary ordinances, issued by Richard II, Henry V and Henry VIII. It examines the progression of the English army throughout the period 1385–1513, discussing how the ordinances were necessary for the effective functioning of these armies, how discipline and the ordinances changed throughout this period in reaction to the context of the campaign, and concluding with what these underutilized sources can add to our understanding of late medieval warfare.
