The letters that the E nglish king R ichard II sent to various other heads of state after his ‘ R evenge’ parliament in 1397, in which he vaunted his ascendant power, are to be attributed to the authorship of the protonotary W illiam F erriby, a participant in the deposition proceedings against R ichard and author of a literary lament for him after the deposition, who was executed as a rebel by H enry IV early in 1400.
