Real GDP growth advanced at a deceptively strong 3.1% annualised pace in Q1, though the composition of growth revealed that the economy is cooling. Consumer outlays (+0.9%) posted the weakest gain in a year, business investment (+4.4%) moderated further, and residential investment (−2.0%) posted its fifth straight contraction. Meanwhile, net trade boosted growth a whopping 1.0ppt on top of a 0.7ppt growth contribution from inventories.
