Hallidayan linguistics has gained an important and influential position among linguistic approaches to the study of the English and Chinese languages in The People’s Republic of China. This paper surveys the developmental stages and the current research environment for Systemic Functional Linguistics in contemporary China, and presents a considered and detailed explanation of the popularity of Hallidayan linguistics amongst contemporary Chinese scholars.
