The first aim of this work is to investigate a particular suppletism in order to draw conclusions about the phenomenon as a whole. Suppletion is a complex phenomenon, which often involves more elements than are generally supposed. Thus the paradigmatic suppletion in Latin between the active faciō « I do » and the passive fiō « I am done » is probably the result of a resolution of another suppletive pair between the roots of agō and faciō . It will be necessary to add to the well‐known morphological suppletion an actantial one and it will be important to determine its importance in the genesis of numerous suppletions. In this paper, we will try to link the phenomenon to the speaker and his/her role in the genesis of the grammar.
