Adger, Be´jar and Harbour (this volume; henceforth ABH) criticise Carstairs–McCarthy (henceforth C–M) (2001b) on several points. I argue that most of ABH's criticisms are mistaken. However, they make an interesting proposal concerning locality that deserves further investigation.
