Children’s experience of work raises issues of perennial interest and concern both nationally and internationally. As Judith Penrose Brown and Sonia Blandford point out, the underlying debate about child employment is diverse and complex. Although employment issues are a concern in relation to all children, these issues are particularly significant for those with special educational and/or social needs. This article provides a picture of the pattern of work experienced by children in one town and provides, in addition, a welcome insight into some of the issues faced by education social workers.
