The next two articles focus on provision for able pupils. Here, Jane Bonshek discusses the findings of a survey she carried out to compare provision for able pupils in socially deprived and affluent areas in Greater Manchester. On the strength of her findings, which are of general relevance, she argues for a re‐examination of the concept of giftedness, proposing instead the notion of aptitude as being more dynamic and inclusive.
