This article and the next strongly emphasise the need to involve children and young people in the design of the environment in which they are educated. Here, Barbara Brink focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the world and brings a valuable global perspective to our discussion. She concludes that the problem of street children and children in difficult circumstances, from which no country is spared, requires cooperative work between project planners, the community and the target population.
