Sarcanthopsis hansemannii from the Bismarck Archipelago, Papua New Guinea, is illustrated. Its taxonomy, relationships, distribution and cultivation, and some problems of species delimitation in Sarcanthopsis , are discussed and a full description provided. Its formal transfer from Vandopsis to Sarcanthopsis is made. A preliminary key to the species of Sarcanthopsis occurring in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands is provided. A brief account of the Kew expedition to New Ireland, during which the plant figured was collected, is given.
